Lost time

Am I the only other person who absolutely loves the Holidays but every year finds myself asking, “Where did the time go?”

If you are anything like us, we spend the days trying to fit in all of the fun activities that accompany the holidays, cookie baking, gingerbread house decorating, wrapping presents, shopping for others, seeing Santa and the list goes on. Although, this year was a bit different because of COVID.

We typically do Thanksgiving day with my mother in law, and then the Saturday after Thanksgiving with my parents. Then its fa-la-la-la-la until the New Year! We do Christmas Eve at my in laws, and then have my parents over Christmas morning to watch our kids open presents and I make a big breakfast. We then load up around lunch time and head to my parents to celebrate Christmas with the cousins and grandparents.

We are very blessed though, having a lot of fun activities and a large family gives us so many fun memories. Now that the kids are getting older the meltdowns and exhaustion gets to people slightly less than it used to. This year we were even lucky enough thanks to quarantine to become very close with the other kids in the neighborhood. We did a block party where we decorated gingerbread houses, had cocoa and snacks, and let the kids do a secret Santa gift exchange.

This is also the time of year when I start to really cash in my rewards apps like fetch and ibotta and shopkicks. If you haven’t read the post where I shared what those apps are check that out here. Hey, every little bit helps! It’s also my busy season for my side crafts. Each year I usually take a few orders, but nothing too crazy. This year however, I had an idea to use the peg people I like to paint to make custom ornaments for people. I wasn’t sure if this would be a popular item, as I usually never know what people will like, but it really took off!

I spent the time between Thanksgiving and Christmas painting, and painting and then painting. I really had to juggle not letting it cut into time with the kids. My husband even had to take a few days off work so I could have some extra time to get some of the orders done. I absolutely loved being able to recreate these ornaments for people though! I even became close with the people at the post office as I was shipping often enough. I finished the last of my holiday orders only days before Christmas and for the first time ever had to turn down some customers who wanted a rushed order for fear I wouldn’t complete it in time. If you are interested in seeing many of my products or placing an order head on over to Facebook and give my page a like and send me a message. I’d love to work with you! https://www.facebook.com/Ashleys-Creations-104654381571137.

Once the hub-bub of Christmas settled down I was left like most mothers trying to figure out how to organize new items. I typically spend the week after Christmas taking the kids to do things like the cheap movie theater and skyzone or bowling. COVID however had our state close these things down so we spent the week thinking of other fun ways to keep busy! Checking out new toys, movie nights and game nights. We also went wild this year and let our kids stay up (or attempt) until midnight on New Years Ever. My husband made amazing wings and we had shrimp and some other yummy items. We play games like uno flip, Meme the game- Disney version and bless everyone on the block because we let them get out their karaoke machine.

Most of the kids made it until midnight although Dad and I struggled! We invited a few neighbor friends down for some card games too. The kids had a blast, and I hope its something we can continue to do each year and give them the memory or ringing in the New Year together.

So with all of the holiday chaos and settling into the New Year I really dropped the ball (see what I did there) on my blog. If you are someone who reads regularly, I apologize and hope to juggle things a bit better going forward.
